Class Supplies:

Paper and pencil

Basic quilting supplies - rotary cutter, mat, ruler, sewing machine in good working order (1/4” foot and straight stitch plate work great for this method - bring them if you have them), thread for seaming.

Any size large square ruler

Marking pen


1/4 yd. of approximately eight fabrics for rails

Yardage for fussy cutting (make sure there is a motif to focus upon).  A larger scale print works best to get the most out of the class.

Class Description:

Improvisational piecing methods are meant to give you a one-of-a-kind quilt. Although many people use these methods to make their quilts, no two quilts end up looking the same or have the same character.  They represent the unique “hand of the maker.”  This is my favorite technique.  There is nothing in quilting that brings me more joy when I sit down at the sewing machine.  I’m pleased to share my secrets with you.

Another favorite technique of mine is fussy cutting.  It livens up a quilt without having to spend a lot of time piecing.  Learn my secrets to fussy cutting.  Although some may not think so, I believe this is a skill that makes or breaks a quilt top.

Join me and get an understanding and hands on experience of how these techniques can add artistry to any quilt.  We will have a quilt kit available for this class but it is not necessary.  The completed picture from this quilt will be available as soon as it is finished.  The picture shown is the quilt in process on my design wall.
