This years Block of the Month Features Kathy Doughty's new collection "Horizons" for Free Spirit Fabrics.  We've combined interesting blocks with fussy cut images from the collection to create a BOM with a lot of punch.  The collection releases in February, just in time for

Beginning Quilt Making

Class Description:

Learn the fundamentals of quilting while creating a table runner from start to finish.  
This 5 week class will cover the fundamentals - fabric preparation, cutting, sewing, pressing and other quilt making techniques.  You will learn how to make 6 basic blocks found in many quilting designs.  You will assemble these blocks into a quilt top, learn how to machine quilt with your walking foot and finally you will bind your runner. 
This is a great class for new quilters as well as those who have done some quilting but haven’t taken a class.
Traverse Bag

Learn how to make the large or small traverse bag.  This bag is great for the essentials.  The class covers zippers, magnetic snaps, and some fun finishing techniques.

Class Description:
Take hand embroidery to the next level.  Learn how to create embroidery as embellishment and quilting.  Create fused appliqué or choose your favorite technique.  Use some of the more modern seed stitching and big stitch embroidery techniques to create a more artful and personal statement.  This year we will be creating five leaves.  We will keep working on each leaf throughout the class sessions, adding more difficult stitches to each.  When you are done, each leaf will show stitches from more simplistic to the advanced.  Meet fellow quilters who enjoy handwork and non-traditional embroidery.  2018 patterns are different from the last two years and will make a lovely wall hanging or table runner.Big_Stitch.html

Secrets of Color

Class Description:
I’ve been studying and working with color for many years.  My advertising, artistic, quilting and fabric dyeing backgrounds have all contributed to my knowledge.  I thank all of you for showering me with compliments on a daily bases.  It’s one of the things that keeps me going and inspired as I create samples and kits for the store.  
If you’ve had my help creating a color palette for one of your projects you know how I strive to give you nuggets of knowledge as we choose color combinations.
With this class you’ll get a broader understanding of my techniques and you’ll learn how to develop you’re own eye for color.
All you need for this class is paper and pencil.  We’ll play with fabrics all night long!
Creating Landscape Quilts
from Photographs

Class Description:
In this class each participant will start to assemble a small landscape quilt (smaller than 24" square) from a photograph, and should be able to finish the project on her own after the end of the day.   Emily will guide you in choosing fabrics, creating depth with color choices and interesting ways to create the details.  Please bring a photograph of a landscape that you like (flower photos OK too).  The photograph can have personal significance or come from a book or calendar.   If you are not good at sketching please bring an enlarged color photocopy (11x17).
