Block of the Month

Begins Saturday, February 9, 2013

2nd Saturday of the Month

9am, 10am or 11am

Choose from Two Color Palettes:

Fabrics:

This year our options center around popular color schemes.  Whether you’re jetting off to someplace warm for a winter vacation, anticipating a warmer season, or gearing up your home and lifestyle to reflect a more modern look, you’ll find one of our palettes to your liking.  Above, Pastels with a Punch can be as relaxing and fun as any beach vacation while our Urban Modern palette uses the grays, tomato reds, turquoises and limes that are now popular with quilters creating a modern esthetic.

Most months you’ll receive three fat eighths to create the month’s block.  This leaves plenty of leftovers to create a scrappy quilt.

Class Description:

Block of the Month meets once a month in the morning for one year.  Come in on the second Saturday of every month at 9am, 10am or 11am to receive fabrics and instructions for specific blocks.  Each session runs approximately 40 minutes.  Make one or more blocks each month before coming back to class the next month and receive the next set of fabrics and instructions.

We also catch you up on Twin Cities Quilting’s new offerings, showing you the latest patterns, books and fabrics available.  It’s a great way to become part of our community.  Each month we have show and tell, letting you see what others in your community have been creating.  It’s a fun, upbeat way to start your weekend.  Join with your quilting friends and have a year long plan to get together.  Many groups will meet for coffee, breakfast or lunch at one of the many close restaurants before or after class.

The class fee includes instructions and fabrics that are passed out during the monthly class.  We give you a minimum of 3/8 yard every month.  By purchasing a kit for the twin or queen option you’ll receive: 1) enough background fabric to make the blocks, background and border, 2) all of the sashing and inner border fabrics, 3) additional fabrics for the decorative border treatment.

Pastels with a Punch - We took some great pastel colors and amped up their color to create this great palette.  This color way evokes a great spring day that anticipates the summer ahead.  The background colors are four shades of creamy whites.

Class Benefits:

Most of the participants say the main reason they enroll in Block of the Month is to be part of a quilting community for a year.  Keeping up with friends and making new ones is an incentive to help finish this large project that spans one full calendar year.

Many also love learning piecing techniques for new blocks and improving their quilting skills.  They improve their sense of color choices and have a greater understanding of coordinating color to create a more dynamic quilts.

Keeping up with new fabric selections and book releases is also great fun.  It’s inspiration for many of the quilters in the room.  You’ll also get to hear about upcoming classes and new Twin Cities Quilting patterns and kits.
